To help you with transitioning to a new software, we have put together this ready reference guide so that you can complete the day-to-day tasks required to run your law firm efficiently.
The My Settings area is unique for each user and includes common user-specific settings. Once the admin assigns these settings, each firm user can log into their account to review the suggested settings.
The Setup area allows you to manage and customize your default settings throughout the application.

Your dashboard is the first thing you see when you log in to your account. Your ability to view dashboards depends on your user access. NextGen gives you greater flexibility in managing and customizing your dashboard.
When you log in to your account, your dashboards are the first things you see.
The global search bar at the top of the page allows you to access your information with a single click from any part of the system.
The Filter tab allows you to search for information based on a variety of criteria. Once you have completed your search, you can save the view to come back to later. The Export feature allows you to export the data in your preferred format for offline review and distribution.
The Global Add Shortcuts drop-down offers convenient access to common activities from any screen.
Utilize keyboard shortcuts to efficiently execute common tasks such as:
- Adding timecards
- Recording soft cost expenses
- Logging hard cost expenses
- Creating notes
- Scheduling events
- Managing tasks
- Updating contacts
Import definitions allows users to create a custom format for importing items into the application. Use this function for routine imports such as soft cost expenses.
You can take a screenshot of your entire screen, or a portion of it, using the correct key combination.
You can create a desktop shortcut for convenient access to the login page.
The Inactivity Timeout feature automatically logs users out after a period of inactivity.
If you are experiencing browser latency or are unable to view system updates, our support team may recommend clearing your browser's cache.

You have the flexibility to export your data from various areas where the toolbar features the Export icon.
Jobs you add to the Job List continue their activities in the program while the system completes the download behind the scenes.
The Job List includes all jobs' statuses, details, and results.
Enabling Microsoft Authenticator will prompt Admin users to sync their account with the Authenticator app and add verification code from the app. Multi-factor authentication (MFA) or two-factor authentication (2FA) is a great way to add an extra layer of protection to account logins.
Many firms give the originator who brings on a new client to the firm a percentage or set dollar amount for each client they bring on. Within the application, you can:
- Set up originator allocations at firm level – If the firm always pays the originators the same percentage
- Add the originator to your matters – You can use the default rate set at firm level, or set a custom percentage at the matter-level.
To cut down navigation time and organize your frequently visited pages based on your preferences, you can add them to your favorites menu at the top of the left navigation panel.
